AUGUST
Vogue France, Miss Cannes, June 2023 Laura Jane Coulson
THERE’S BEEN A LOT OF DAYDREAMING. MY HEAD HAS BEEN SOMEWHERE ELSE. A LOT OF FEELING. SO MUCH IS SHIFTING AT ROCKET SPEED & PRETTY MUCH EVERY SINGLE PERSON I KNOW IS FEELING THROUGH SOMETHING TOO. SO, I’VE ADMITTEDLY BEEN DOING A LOT OF ESCAPING. TO THE OCEAN, MAINLY. SOFT EAST COAST SUNSETS AND BEACH GRASS GENTLY SWAYING. LET AUGUST BE SWEET. IT’S OK TO LET YOUR MIND TRAVEL TO WHERE IT DESIRES, SO LONG AS YOU RETRIEVE THE MEDICINE, INSPIRATION, OR INSTRUCTION THAT’S THERE, ASKING YOU TO EMBRACE IT.
B SIDES makes one of a kind re-worked jeans from old Levis . I just scored a pair that I love from my long time favorite shop in Santa Barbara, Jake and Jones (whooo btw… just opened a corner shop down the street called “The Eddy” and is full of Ghia, an extensive selection of tinned fish, glorious Italian imports, fresh produce, Vacation Inc. sunscreen, various rad independent publications like apartmento, and much much more. All that to say, check out both if you’re in town!

BELLE THE LABEL
It’s been so fun to see how Belle continues to evolve. I caught onto them when their well known Oracle bikini was seemingly going viral because it was everywhere. In the coolest of ways. I have mine in brown and j’adore. But over the last two years, they’ve really launched into more ready-to-wear pieces that are so beyond creative and fun and different from anything else I’m seeing. I genuinely enjoy receiving emails from Belle just so I can see what they’re up to. The way they style, layer, photograph…everything evokes a feeling of playfulness, thoughtfulness, boundaryless-ness (?) and always a tad bit of sweet early 2000s innocent nostalgia (in the most mature, elevated of ways) … if that makes any sense.

2.
MOON LISTS —
A workbook and tool made by Leigh Patterson. I highly recommend getting on her email/substack list which is always full of the most thought-provoking prompts and metaphors.*
* I don’t really like Substack and typical journal prompts annoy me because they all feel the same or I can’t get myself to actually WANT to respond. But, Leigh has a magic way of communicating and guiding the flow of thoughts. Tremendous shift in perspective and much needed lightness
